FOLDED BREWS

Bili Hu source their coffee from single coffee estates of Chikmagalur, Karnataka.Through research we established that the brand's core values and messaging can be effectively conveyed by incorporating the essence of Chikmagalur. We aimed to bring the essence of chikmagalur in our pop-up store, highlighting the connection between the region and the brand.
Bili Hu Coffees strongly connects to Chikmagalur, a key region for sourcing its premium coffee beans. Chikmagalur, the birthplace of Indian coffee, produces high-quality Arabica and Robusta beans, thanks to its ideal altitude, climate, and biodiversity.

Many coffee estates here are family-owned and have been passed down for generations, aligning with Bili Hu's emphasis on artisanal craftsmanship and heritage.

The microclimate and shade-grown farming in Chikmagalur give the beans complex flavours.

DIRECTION (Flow of research)

NARRATIVE

Amalgamation of Bili Hu and Origami and Kirigami

Origami and Kirigami’s mindfulness and precision mirror Indian artisanal craftsmanship where every action is intentional. Similarly, Bili Hu Coffee's careful sourcing, roasting, and brewing embody this same dedication to deliberate, meaningful work and intentionality.

The design of the structure allows it to transform based on the event’s

requirements. This adaptability ensures that each event is unique, much like the individual flavour profile of each cup of Bili Hu coffee.

Origami and Kirigami are more than paper-folding arts; this is storytelling medium where each fold builds a narrative. Bili Hu Coffee aligns with this tradition by crafting coffee experiences rich in narrative, from the origin of the beans to the personalised brewing methods that reflect the preferences and stories of those who enjoy it.

CONCEPT

 CANOPY OF TREES

The Canopy of Trees draws inspiration from the towering Silver Oak and Ficus trees that shelter coffee plants in Chikmagalur. These adaptable, high-reaching trees provide shade and space for growth, and similarly, the foldable structures of the pop-up echo their flexibility. Retractable sections respond to environmental shifts, mirroring how the canopy adjusts for protection or sunlight. This structure reflects Bili Hu's ethos of preserving the purity of the coffee bean while crafting an open, inviting space for consumers to explore and engage with the coffee journey from plant to cup.

In Chikmagalur the trees that provide shade to coffee plants are often taller ,denser and more mature compared to those in other coffee growing regions.

CASE STUDY

Architects Manuel Bouzas Cavada, Manuel Bouzas Barcala and Clara Álvarez Garcí designed a temporary exhibition pavilion in the Escuelas Trevijano Plaza, with the objective of “making the unclear, transparent, and the heavy, light."

They generated an icon, an attractive exhibit that seeks to stir curiosity and catch the attention of the city's inhabitants. Garnica panels are self-supporting; The construction is simple; the panels are joined with hinges that permit rotation.

FINAL POP -UP FOLD AND MODEL

The Canopy of Tre

The dome features foldable sections in the walls that retracts to open up the space for larger gatherings.

We came up with this while looking at the coffee estate of Chikmagalur like how it acts as a shade and shelter to the coffee, also we wanted to replicate that essence and feeling of that space. This is an origami inspired structure.
